Anguloa orchid is not as common as the other orchids like
cattleya, which it is closely related to Lycastes orchid. This species of
orchid is native from Colombia and Venezuela, which is the place has dry and wet
season each year.
This type orchid has an alternative name of tulip orchid,
which this flower has a blossom of waxy look and sepals in the shape of bulbous,
this type of resemble just like a tulip! The flower of this could be yellow to
red or in greenish white shade.
This flower could be categorized in large orchid when
compare with other type of orchids, the fleshy pseudobulbs could be exceeding
20cm in length. The leave of this orchid is large and long, it able growth over
1m long. This leave would be drops when the new growth starts!
The greenish white colour orchid able to produce six (6)
inflorescences per pseudobulb, whereas yellow to red colour flower able to
produce as many as inflorescences per pseudobuld. There are two (2) or four (4)
leaves form at the base of each individual pseudobulb.
This orchid would be found in the forest floor in the
mountain of Venezuela, Colombia and Ecuador. This type of flower need plenty
water, especially during the growth period. However during the winter time, you
have to take care the roots drier than normal.
